Mulbekh, Jammu & Kashmir

Mulbekh in Jammu & Kashmir is a small sleepy village on Srinagar-Leh highway yet very very very beautiful, some 45 kilometers from Kargil towards east and 190 kilometers to reach Leh. The village resembles as it is sitting on the lap of barren mountains with some green toppings.

A Typical house in the Village...

The symbols of Buddhism...

There are also 2-3 monasteries and the surrounding nature is just beautiful. The Chamba statue here is quite big and magnificent, so the Mulbekh Monastery. The thing to notice about the place is, if you are ascending to Leh from Srinagar side you will feel the presence of Buddhism from here only.

The Chamba Statue...

Accommodation is not at all a problem with a JKTDC guest house and some other private options. 2 restaurants are there in front of Chamba statue and they also got room in purpose of guest house. I personally opted for JKTDC with 300 bucks with neat and clean rooms. And even you can look for an option of 'Homestay', which I personally dint. Power or electricity is definitely a problem here. Only source is Diesel Generator which supplies power from 8-11 in night and 4-7 in the morning for prayer purposes.

An honest suggestion here is, if you are planning for a night stay in Kargil, then just give a second thought to Mulbekh. It does not matter if you are ascending or descending from Leh, 45 kilometers should not matter!!! But it will give you a complete different peaceful experience when compared to Kargil town, with lots of shops and people around.
